Prenatal Education

At Trinity BabyFirst, our staff provides family-centered education from pre-pregnancy to early infancy. Classes and programs are also available for high-risk pregnancies.

Planning on breastfeeding? Take a class before your baby arrives, so you'll know what to expect. Never been in a hospital? Be sure to take the tour during your Expectant Parents class. And that 3-year-old at home? He'll benefit from our Siblings class, where he'll learn all about being a big brother!

Classes fill up fast. Please look ahead at the classes available for each trimester and register now.

First Trimester

Early Pregnancy Class
Just finding out you're pregnant is a very exciting time in your life. Meet other new "parents-to-be" in a 2-hour class designed for those in the first half of their pregnancy. Discussion includes: Prenatal Care, Pregnancy Discomforts, Fetal Development, Nutritional Concerns and Exercise. Fee: $10.00

Expectant Parents Class
Prepare for your child's birth by attending this comprehensive four-week series of classes. This series is recommended for all first time parents. Classes are taught by registered nurses and meet once a week.Classes provide an opportunity to view films, tour the hospital, and discuss topics such as: Care During Late Pregnancy, Labor and Delivery, Medications and Anesthesia, Cesarean Births, Post-Partum Care, Infant Care, Parenting Skills, Infant Safety and CPR. Coping techniques for labor (relaxation, breathing and comfort measures) are useful skills for all mothers-to-be whether planning an unmedicated or medicated delivery. Please register early in your pregnancy as classes fill up quickly.
Fee: $40.00 per couple.

Weekend Prenatal Education
Can't find time in your hectic schedule for prenatal classes? Would you like to complete them in just one weekend? If so, then this class is just for you. The material usually covered in a seven-week prenatal series has been compressed into one weekend for your convenience. You'll learn about your changing body, what to expect during labor and delivery, how to manage the delivery, Infant Safety and CPR, and newborn care. You'll get answers to your questions and make excellent use of your time. The class, taught by a prenatal nurse educator, is held every other month at Trinity. The weekend session is on Saturday from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Snacks and lunch are provided for two people.
Fee: $60 per couple.

BabyFirst Fitness - Prenatal Exercise Program
At Trinity BabyFirst, we know that not only is each woman different, but each pregnancy is. You know you need to exercise. But how, when or if you exercise is a choice you make on your own. Exercise during pregnancy helps control high blood pressure and excess weight gain. It can help ease the ache of your lower back during your last trimester. And a good, safe exercise program can strengthen all your muscles for one of your toughest workouts - the birth of your baby. Whatever your fitness level, BabyFirst Fitness has a safe, monitored plan just for you.

Second Trimester

Breastfeeding Class
Learn the most up-to-date information about breastfeeding and get practical answers to your questions. Topics covered will include: Advantages of Breastfeeding, Getting Off to a Great Start, Positioning and Latch-On Techniques, and Potential Problems - How to Avoid and Treat.
Fee: $15.00

Third Trimester

Refresher Classes
The thought of having another child is often overwhelming. You may wonder how you'll possibly manage. While busy preparing your child(ren) - don't forget yourself. This refresher will help. You really might not remember it all. Plus, it's good quality time for you and your partner. The refresher class fee will enable you to choose any or all of the following sessions. (Classes offered as needed.)

Session 1: Growing Family
Learn what to expect for yourselves and your child or children when bringing a new baby home. Tour of hospital units.

Session 2: Labor Review
Learn to time contractions, determine if you're in labor and review medical procedures during labor.

Session 3: Coping Skills
A review of breathing and relaxation techniques to cope with labor, along with a review of medication and anesthesia options.

Session 4: 4th Trimester
Taking care of mom and baby after delivery. As hospital stays become shorter, get a headstart on learning the basics you will need for your own care and the care of your baby.

Session 5: VBAC

Fee: $10/session or (max fee $40.00 for all refresher classes)

Sibling Class
A fun class to prepare brothers and sisters for the arrival of the new baby. Class includes a video, tour and refreshments.
Fee: $10.00 per family.

Vaginal Birth After Cesarean
"Once a C-section..." is no longer always a C-section. If you have had a cesarean birth, plan on attending this 2-hour class to obtain the latest information on VBAC. Learn the benefits, guidelines, and what to expect. Participants in the Expectant Parents Classes may attend at no additional charge.
Fee: $10.00

Newborn

Where's My Waistline? - BabyFirst Fitness
Some expectant mothers can't start an exercise program until after their baby is born. Don't panic - this choice is for you! With "Where's My Waistline?," you receive an evaluation by a licensed Physical Therapist, and entry into one of the BabyFirst Fitness options, ranging from aerobic classes, pool classes and the use of aerobic equipment to fitness plan design and monitoring while you follow a fitness program you already have established.
