1967 - the first community hospital in Alabama to perform cardiac catheterization
1968 - the first community hospital in Alabama to perform open heart surgery
1980 - the first community hospital in Alabama to perform coronary angioplasty
1989 - the first community hospital in Alabama to perform coronary laser angioplasty
2001 - the first hospital in the state to offer brachytherapy - a revolutionary new treatment intended to prevent stented heart vessels from reblocking
2001 - the first hospital in Alabama to utilize a sutureless anastomotic device for coronary artery bypass surgery (CABG)
2001 - among the first hospitals in Alabama to offer Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy, a new treatment for heart failure that uses an implantable device to improve the pumping efficiency of the heart

The statistics for cardiovascular disease (CVD) are alarming. According to the American Heart Association:
One in five males and females has some form of cardiovascular disease.
CVD is the leading cause of death in both men and women.
One in two women will die of a heart attack or stroke.
Of those who died suddenly from coronary heart disease, 50 percent of men
and 63 percent of women had no previous symptoms of this disease.

Trinity is home to one of the largest cardiology practices in the nation. CardioVascular Associates, P.C., is a team of 38 interventional and non-interventional cardiologists, 19 of whom are based at Trinity.
One of the most renowned cardiovascular surgeon groups, CardioThoracic Surgeons, P.C., is also based at Trinity. The four cardiovascular surgeons on staff, along with our cardiologists, are committed to providing the latest in cardiovascular diagnosis and treatment.
