Trinity brings important new surgical options to Alabama.
Across the nation, specially trained surgeons are using the da Vinci ® Surgery System to provide patients with less invasive alternatives to traditional open surgery. In fact, surgeons at Trinity Medical Center are performing a wide variety of operations with the da Vinci ® System, including surgical “firsts” for patients in Alabama.
In 2006, after advanced training on the da Vinci ® System, cardiothoracic surgeon Dr. C. Duane Randleman used robotic surgery at Trinity Medical Center to perform the first mitral valve repair procedure in Alabama that did not require opening the patient’s chest .
According to Dr. Randleman, “Heart surgery has entered a new era with minimally invasive options that avoid the drawbacks of traditional surgery and really benefit the patient.”
Surgeons at Trinity offer many other less invasive surgery options that include the da Vinci ® Prostatectomy, performed through five tiny surgical openings instead of the traditional eight-to-ten inch incision. The da Vinci ® System is also used for gynecological procedures, among other less invasive choices.
