Cardiac Progressive Care Unit (CPCU)
The Cardiac Progressive Care Unit (CPCU), also known as 4-west, is a 48-private bed cardiac step-down unit. Patients admitted to CPCU typically have a cardiac (heart-related) diagnosis such as post-stent placement, post-cardiac catheterization, heart attack, congestive heart failure (CHF), heart rhythm abnormalities, pacemaker or internal heart defibrillator. Our unit also cares for patients with other diagnosis who have significant history of heart disease.
The nursing staff receives training and annual testing to verify their competency skill and abilities to care for the cardiac patient. Staff on CPCU rely on proven protocols when evaluating patients with chest pain or treating patients with CHF.
Every patient admitted to CPCU has their heart rhythm continuously monitored via telemetry transmission. The Central Monitor room is a command center for telemetry and has the capability of monitoring heart rhythms of patients on any nursing unit in the hospital 24 hours a day. Specially trained monitor technicians staff the central monitor room keeping a constant check on a patient’s heart watching for potentially dangerous heart rhythms.
Our nurses and assistants are here to serve you from admission through recovery to discharge. Meeting your healthcare needs is our primary goal. Throughout your stay we work as a team. Patient education is a priority for the CPCU staff. During your stay you will be given educational material about your specific diagnosis. Through discharge instruction, you and your family are informed about the necessary steps to help you with your care once you leave the hospital.
