Radiation Therapy Safety Tips

We at Trinity are committed to the highest standards of safety and care.

We ask that you as patients, and families of patients, help us accomplish this goal. The following is a list of things that you can do to help in your care. In addition to these suggestions, we are interested in hearing any other concerns you have.

For your convenience, we provide wheelchairs at the front entrance. Please notify staff if one is not available.

  • If you need a cane or walker to move about within the department, please bring your own.
  • We do not keep any narcotics or other medication in our department. If you need to take your regularly scheduled and/or pain medications while away from home, bring them with you.
  • If the patient becomes easily confused someone will need to escort them. We will not be able to stay with the patient when they are not in the treatment room.
  • Please do not leave your children unsupervised.
  • We do not provide food or drinks, except coffee. If you are a diabetic and will need a snack while away from home you will need to bring your own. For your convenience there are snack machines located in the department.
  • While you are taking the Radiation Treatment, you will be laying on a narrow x-ray table. If you have a problem lying flat or holding still, please notify the staff. You must be able to lay still and not turn to your side.
  • You will be by yourself in the room while getting the Radiation Treatment. This will be for a few minutes only. The staff will be able to view you through a camera and hear you through a speaker.
  • You will need to lay in the same position every day to get your treatment. When the staff gets you in the position to be treated do not move until your treatment is over.
  • To make sure you do not move we may make an immobilization device to help you stay still.
  • If you need help getting on or off the treatment table or if you need help in dressing/undressing, let the staff know.
  • If you feel you are having a side effect related to the treatments notify the staff, nurse or doctor.
  • Please report any concerns or problems during or following your Radiation treatment to the staff, nurse, doctor or supervisor as soon as possible.
