Beginning Radiation Treatment

The following information is designed to instruct you in regards to the radiation treatment that you are about to begin. You will be treated every day except Saturday, Sunday, holidays, and, on occasion, other days. You will be treated daily over one or more areas of your body. The length of each treatment may vary during your course of therapy due to a change of dosage or machines.

IMPORTANT: If you are being treated as an outpatient (that is, not a bed patient in the hospital), you will be given an appointment for a definite time when the treatment machine will be reserved for you. We are working on a very close schedule and have a waiting list of patients to be treated. PLEASE be on time for your appointment. It would be wise to plan to be in the department 10-15 minutes before your appointment. If, for any reason, you are unable to keep your appointment, please notify the Department of Radiation Oncology by calling 205-592-1258.

When you arrive each day, please register with the receptionist at the desk in this department. The treatment station will inform you about any change in treatment appointment.

The doctors, their staff, and your family physician or surgeon will be working together so that you will be able to gain the best results from your treatment. By following the doctors' and nurses' recommendations, you will also be working for your comfort and well-being.

If you have any questions concerning your treatments or need any advice, do not hesitate to ask your doctors.
