TRINITY MEDICAL CENTER NAMES KEITH GRANGER PRESIDENT AND CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER
BIRMINGHAM, AL (February 15, 2010) – Trinity Medical Center announced today that Keith Granger has been appointed President and Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately. Granger joined Trinity as Interim CEO in October 2009 to lead the hospital’s daily operations and to help position the facility for long-term success and growth. Granger previously served as CEO of Flowers Hospital in Dothan, Alabama. Trinity Medical Center and Flowers Hospital are both affiliated with Community Health Systems, Inc., a leading operator of general acute-care hospitals.
“Over the past few months, I have been greatly impressed by the expertise of the hospital’s medical staff, the dedication of its employees and the support of our Board,” said Granger. “Trinity is an outstanding hospital with a rich tradition of providing high-quality, compassionate care for its patients. I look forward to being a part of its strong commitment to care for the residents of our community.”
“Keith Granger is a veteran healthcare executive with a proven track-record of success in every area of hospital management,” said James Spann, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Trinity Medical Center. “His experience, especially in the areas of clinical quality and patient safety, will advance Trinity’s reputation as a leading provider of healthcare services.”
In his role, Granger is responsible for the hospital’s strategic direction, its focus on clinical excellence, and daily operations. He will also oversee Trinity’s ongoing efforts to win regulatory approval for its move to a brand new, state-of-the-art hospital facility on Hwy 280. The development of the new hospital brings with it the promise of convenient access to the most advanced healthcare options. It also represents a tremendous development project for the City of Birmingham, which will result in new jobs, increased tax revenues and hundreds of millions of dollars in long-term economic impact.
“Construction of the new hospital would create a vital, much-needed economic stimulus project for Birmingham,” said Granger. “It will also elevate the level of healthcare services available in our community, and ultimately, it will help improve the quality of life for local residents.”
During his tenure as CEO of Flowers Hospital, Granger led his hospital team through an impressive quest to become the top performing hospital in the nation for compliance with the CMS core measures of quality. This honor earned the hospital noteworthy recognition from the Commonwealth Fund in its report, Flowers Hospital: Nearing Perfection on Core Measures. Granger is an industry leader who serves as Chairman of the Alabama Hospital Association’s Quality Task Force and on the Board of AQAF – Alabama’s Medicare Quality Improvement Organization. He also serves on the Board of Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Alabama. Granger serves on the Board of Governors of the Federation of American Hospitals. He is past Chairman of the Federation’s Hospital Leadership Committee, and currently serves on the Legislative and Quality Committees.
