TRINITY MEDICAL CENTER EXPANDS MANAGEMENT TEAM

Bill Heburn to Serve as Chief Development Officer

Keith Granger Appointed Interim Chief Executive Officer

BIRMINGHAM, AL (September 16, 2009) – Trinity Medical Center announced today that it is expanding its management team to provide additional executive support for daily hospital operations while it simultaneously pursues regulatory approval for a planned relocation to a new, state-of-the-art hospital campus on Hwy 280.

Bill Heburn has been named Chief Development Officer, responsible for overseeing efforts to gain regulatory approval and to prepare for Trinity Medical Center’s ultimate move to a new hospital campus on Hwy 280.  Heburn also will be responsible for other strategic business development efforts designed to position Trinity for long-term success and growth.

Keith Granger has been appointed Interim Chief Executive Officer of Trinity, responsible for overseeing daily hospital operations.  Granger will be responsible for the hospital’s strategic focus on providing high-quality healthcare for its patients, medical staff relationships and the recruitment of new physicians to the community, efforts to attract and retain a strong team of employees, and achieving operational excellence at the hospital.

The new positions will be effective on October 5, 2009.

“We are very fortunate to have two highly regarded, talented healthcare veterans to lead Trinity Medical Center through this exciting time of growth and development,” said James Spann, Chairman of the Board of Trinity Medical Center. “As we expand our management team, we are providing the resources and support necessary to focus on

the immediate, daily needs of our hospital while also devoting the same level of high caliber leadership to our efforts to open a new hospital on Hwy 280.”

Heburn is uniquely qualified to lead Trinity’s efforts to win regulatory approval for the new hospital. He has served as CEO of Trinity since September 2007.  During that period, he has devoted much of his time to the new hospital project. As the regulatory process now intensifies with an Administrative Law Judge Hearing scheduled to begin on September 28, and a review of the Certificate of Need (CON) application to follow soon after, Heburn can remain solely focused on these efforts over the coming months.

“I am delighted to have the opportunity to serve Trinity Medical Center in this capacity, appreciate the confidence of our Board, and look forward to the responsibility of achieving one of our most important strategic priorities – opening a new hospital on Hwy. 280,” said Heburn.  “Construction of the new hospital represents an essential economic stimulus project for Birmingham, and it ultimately promises to further advance Trinity’s mission of proving high-quality healthcare for our community.”

Granger joins Trinity from Flowers Hospital in Dothan, Alabama, where he has demonstrated a strong record of operational excellence at every level. While at Flowers, Granger led the hospital through an impressive quest to become the top performing hospital in the nation for compliance with the CMS core measures of quality.  This honor earned the hospital noteworthy recognition from the Commonwealth Fund in its report, Flowers Hospital: Nearing Perfection on Core Measures. Granger is an industry leader who serves as Chairman of the Alabama Hospital Association’s Quality Task Force and on the Board of AQAF – Alabama’s Medicare Quality Improvement Organization.  He also serves on the Board of Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Alabama.  Granger is a past member of the Federation of American Hospital’s Board of Governors, past Chairman of the Federation’s Hospital Leadership Committee and currently serves on the Quality Committee.

“I am looking forward to working with the fine medical staff and employees of Trinity Medical Center,” said Granger.  “While pursuing plans for the new hospital, Trinity remains focused on providing excellent medical care for its patients and on efforts to continuously enhance key services, such as cardiovascular care, oncology services, emergency services, medical and surgical care, and women’s services.  I am truly delighted to have the opportunity to work with a hospital team that is fully committed to quality.”
