Pharmacy Department
The Pharmacy Department provides 24-hour service for the medication needs of our patients here at Trinity Medical Center. All pharmacists and technical staff are licensed by the State Board of Pharmacy and are highly experienced in providing pharmaceutical care.
The Pharmacy Department, in collaboration with the Medical Staff, Nursing Services and other Allied Health Professionals, plays an integral role in achieving quality patient care outcomes through the appropriate use of pharmaceuticals.
Services
- Drug Distribution - The Pharmacy Department utilizes an automated cabinet system(Pyxis System) to provide accurate and timely medication for our patients. Pharmacists review Patient Medication Profiles for significant drug/drug interactions, duplicate therapy and other issues to promote efficient and accurate drug distribution.
- Education & Research - The Pharmacy Department serves as a teaching rotation site for students from Samford University's McWhorter School of Pharmacy. In addition, the department is involved with and helps coordinate clinical drug research that is approved by Trinity Medical Center Institutional Review Board. Members of the staff participate in Diabetes Education classes for patients referred by members of Trinity's Medical Staff.
- Rounding Service - Pharmacists round daily with the Medical Staff in both the Medical and Surgical Intensive Care units providing drug therapy recommendations.
- Antibiotic Monitoring Service - Patients receiving antibiotics are assessed for dosing adjustments and/or necessary changes to type or duration of drug therapy.
- Nutritional Support - For those patients receiving total parenteral nutrition, the Pharmacists review all pertinent data and assist, through physician consultation, in the management of the patient's nutritional support.
- Coumadin Anticoagulation Service - Upon request, Pharmacists review all pertinent data for patients receiving Coumadin and make recommendations to achieve an appropriate level of anticoagulation, minimizing patient bleeding risks and promoting the efficient use of laboratory testing.
- Drug Information - Drug Information Services are provided to patients, Medical Staff and Nursing Service. Information includes product identification, drug interactions and drug associated adverse affects. Additionally, discharge consultation is provided to patients upon request.
